A dangerous split has appeared on a wheel rim by a spoke nipple. It would be risky to ride with this so a new rim or wheel is needed.

Cleaning the chain

Using a 'chain keeper/dummy hub/sleeping hub' with the rear wheel removed to prevent the cleaning solution getting into the freehub.

A Dial Test Indicator (DTI) attached to a wheel truing stand to accurately check how true the wheel rim is.

New and old bearing. As part of a headset service it was found the lower sealed bearing was so badly corroded it had come apart.

The locking ring is removed from the left side of the bottom bracket.

The cartridge bottom bracket is then removed from the right side of the frame.

For safe cartridge bottom bracket (BB) removal the BB socket can be carefully attached to the BB spindle using a fine threaded bolt and nut. This prevents the socket and spanner flying off when under pressure.

Due to the damaged piston contaminates were able to get into the hydraulic brake fluid. The fluid in the funnel should be pink. The fluid had to be completely flush through the system.

With the piston removed from the cailper, the fragments broken off from the piston can be seen still inside the caliper.

All the problems caused to the braking system were as a result of the damage caused to the ceramic piston.

This damage to the frame has been caused by the rear tyre wearing on the chainstay because the rear wheel wasn't aligned correctly. In this case the axle in the rear hub was broken.
